Oils and Infertility

I just want to say this before I start.  I am NOT a doctor.  I am NOT saying that oils will heal infertility.  This is simply my personal story with oils and how I used them as a tool to support me through the hardest thing I’ve ever had to experience. Also, if your a male, this post really isn’t for you! 🙂

Infertility is what brought me to finding essential oils.  I needed support with sleep, depression and hormones.  Young Living literally had it all when I visited their website.  But that wasn’t enough to get me hooked.  I spent forever researching the different ways to use oils and exactly what oils I needed. Months went by and I finally pulled the plug on the premium starter kit.  (You can get yours here).  Below you will find some of the oils that I found to be useful and how I used them while we worked with our fertility clinic, trying to conceive.  Please note that what I used before getting pregnant is completely different from what I am currently using during pregnancy.  Actually, I found that many of the oils recommended for conceiving are not recommended during pregnancy.

My first Young Living Order was the premium starter kit, Lady Scareol, Progessensce Plus & Dragon Time.

Dragon Time is a blend of Fennel, Clary Sage, Lavender, Blue Yarrow, Jasmine, & Marjoram, all oils that are constantly being recommend for hormone support. (This is also a great blend for anyone suffering from painful menstrual cramps). I rubbed a few drop directly on abdomen nightly only on the days that I was on my period. Since my periods were induced, thanks to progesterone, I was cramping more than usual.

Progessence Plus actually contains a small amount of the biologically identical hormone, progesterone. I rubbed it on the bottoms of my feet (then slipped on fuzzy socks) and on my abdomen as well. I used Progessence Plus only when I was on Progesterone till the first day I started my period, then stopped.

Lady Sclareol was an oil blend I used to make me feel like a women again. Lady Sclareol contains Rosewood, Vetiver, Geranium, Orange, Idaho Tansy, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Spanish Sage, Clary Sage. All these oils blended together are meant to inspire romance, improve your spirit & mood. When you’re going through infertility treatments you don’t feel like yourself. I had gained anywhere from 10-15lbs, (depending on what meds I was on) & felt so uncomfortable, unfeminine and just plain YUCK. So I wore Lady Sclareol as my daily perfume, rubbing on my wrists, behind ears and chest multiple times a day.

To help me sleep at night the routine was super simple, Lavender or a blend of Lavender and Cedarwood in a diffuser on my nightstand. I recommend testing out the number of drops you want to use.  Some may find 10 drops of Lavender too overwhelming or maybe they want more.  For me what worked was 8 to 10 drops of Lavender or 4 drops of Cedarwood and 4 drops of Lavender.  (Also it depends on how many drops are recommended for your diffuser.  For the Young Living dewdrop diffuser they recommend 6- 8 drops of essential oils, and I love a strong scent.

Some additional oils I enjoyed during this time are Gentle Baby, Valor, Sara and Joy. I loved Gentle baby when I was feeling overwhelmed, I actually never stopped using Gentle Baby, I rub it all over my pregnant belly.  Also, we are stocking up on GB to use when Baby Thornton arrives! Valor, is said to promote feelings of courage, so I would rub a few drops on my wrists whenever I was headed to my doctor or even just to get blood taken. (side note: if you have a spouse that snores, rub a few drops on the bottom of their feet every night, it’s MAGIC!) Sara & Joy are both oils designed to help during emotional times, I was recommended by someone else struggling through infertility to purchase these and are they turned out to be right!  I would diffuse them or add a few drops to the bath tub for extra relaxation.

There are so many ways to incorporate essential oils to your daily life. So here are a few additional ways you can use essential oils:

  • Add 2-4 drops to bath water
  • Add a drop to palms of hand, rubbing together and inhaling directly,
  • Apply to vita flex points
  • Dilute with coconut oil and use as moisturizer
